B Walk – Little Longstone

November 13 @ 10:00 am

This week’s walk has been demoted from Great Longstone to Little Longstone in order to reduce the distance on the Monsal Trail, which seemed a bit monotonous on the recce. It will now start from opposite the pub in the centre of Little Longstone (GR SK191718). There is abundant room to park by the roadside between Monsal Head and the start point with yet more closer to but just past  the start, all on the left-hand side coming from Monsal Head. There is also some space on the right at the start point but probably not enough room for all.

We will start at 10.00am and walk through Great Longstone and up on to Longstone Edge, westwards along the Edge, then steeply up to Longstone Moor. Thence we plan to go on to Wardlow, Cressbrook Dale, Cressbrook Mill, across the lovely new bridge over the Wye, up to the Monsal Trail and so back through the only tunnel on the route (hopefully) to Little Longstone. Apart from the steep ascent mentioned and a short tricky bit of limestone on the path down into Cressbrook Dale the walk is easy to moderate and about 9 miles give or take a bit.
