B Walk – Over Haddon (Change from programme)
October 30 @ 10:00 am
Start Time – 10.00am.
Start Point – Over Haddon Car Park(SK203664) where there are toilets
There is some Car Parking in and just outside the village.
The Weather Forecast, I am afraid, is not very promising. It could be
wet and cold.
Temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees are forecast.
I will be using OS Map OL24 (White Peak Area) and the description of
the Walk is taken from an INSIDE local magazine.
It is a varied Moderate walk with steepish sections. Some of the
paths are stony, and could be wet.. There are also some grassy and a few
muddy sections, as well as a little Road surface walking. There are also
some stiles to be negotiated.
Overall, it is a pleasant, fun walk because of the variation in
scenery we will see. It is approximately 9.5 miles long starting
from the main Over Haddon car park. From Over Haddon, we drop down
steeply into Lathkill Dale to follow the River Lathkill into Alport,
where it is joined by the River Bradford. We then follow the River
Bradford upstream past the villages of Bradford and Youlgrave onto
Middleton for lunch and a toilet stop.
From MIddleton, we pick-up the Limestone Way to Cales Dale, which we
enter via some steep steps. We then follow Cales Dale to where it
joins Lathkill Dale to start our return journey back to Over Haddon,
via a steep ascent back to the Car Park.
I would advise that, as a guide, I am anticipating that it will take
me approximately 1 hour to get from Hazel Grove to Over Haddon due to
the time at which I will be travelling.
