We have been checking the weather forecast for Taddington, which
currently comes under a  weather warning for rain and strong winds in
Derbyshire East. As the weather forecast is more favourable in the west,
we have reluctanly decided to postpone the planned walk till spring, and
instead, do a more local walk.

So Thursday’s walk now starts in Adlington at the junction of Wood Lane
West and Wood Lane North, GR SJ 936817. Parking is on Wood Lane West –
there’s a long layby, stretching up to the junction, split by the bus
stop near the junction. We’ll assemble on the broad pavement opposite
the bus stop, aiming to start walking at 10:00.

The walk takes us up past Birchencliff cottages, over Bakestonedale
Moor, down through Harrop Wood and up to Sponds Hill (on the Gritstone
Trail), from where we will gradually work our way back. The walk is
about 9.5 miles, moderate, with an elevation of 500m.
