C Walk – Middlewood

October 26 @ 9:45 am

Meeting at 9.45 am to start at 10 am (Don’t forget Daylight Saving ends and you get an extra hour in bed .)

This nice country walk will take us through a wide range of unspoilt countryside settings from woodland, meadows, streams and canal. Even though it’s in East Cheshire with lots of gates, there are also quite a few stiles. While it is mostly flat there are some relatively gentle ascents and descents through farmland – much of the walk is on well defined paths.  It is around 7.6 miles (OS Maps) in length.

The walk will start from Buxton Road (old A6 before the bypass created for A555, near Jacksons Dairy). Ample parking on Buxton Road – a nearby post code is SK7 6NA.

Route to  (old) Buxton Road / Simpson’s Corner

From Brabyns head back along Station Road to the lights opposite the Texaco/Coop petrol station. Follow Stockport Road past Rose Hill Station to the second set of lights at ‘Seventeen Windows’. Turn left at the lights (filter lane), follow Offerton Road until it becomes Torkington Road turn left at the lights with the Bulls Head. Continue along the A6 past the BP station on the right straight through the first lights past the end of the A555 and turn right at the next lights onto (old) Buxton Road and park on the left.

Note: Please use the above directions and do not approach the parking from the old Buxton Road using the new bridge across the A555. Buses (199) can use it but cars are not allowed – there is CCTV / ANPR and you will be fined!
