SUMMARY:C Walk - Peel Tower / Holcombe Hill
DESCRIPTION:Peel Tower and Holcombe Moor\, 7.5 miles approx! \n\n\n\nMeeting at 10am for a 10:15am start \n\n\n\nLumb Lane car park\, Lumb Lane\, \n\n\n\nHolcombe \n\n\n\nBury. BL8 4NN \n\n\n\nIt’s about 25 miles and takes approx 40 mins drive. \n\n\n\nFrom your location\, take the M60 anticlockwise.After passing Jn19\, Middleton\, make your way into the 2 outside lanes. There are some motorway road works at this junction but it hasn’t caused me any problems so far.Take the motorway split into the M66\, Bury/Burnley/BlackburnDrive along the M66 to Jn1 (I think it’s the 3rd exit counting the Pilsworth park and ride)Exit at Jn 1\, Ramsbottom A56.Follow this up to the T-junction and turn right. This is Manchester Rd.Follow this road to the 1st set of traffic lights and left turn onto Bury New Rd\, B6214.Follow this road all the way through Ramsbottom going over the railway lines at the East Lancs railway through the village. Still staying on this road go up towards Holcombe village\, it’s a bit narrow in places so be careful\, keep on this road and drive up through Holcombe village passing The Shoulder of Mutton pub on your left. Turn left here and then just after you leave the village drive down to the car park which is on your left. There is a brown sign on the right stating “Peel Tower”. This is a free car park\, but no toilet facilities. \n\n\n\nWe will walk around the base of the moor on National Trust land and good paths\, though can be rocky at times\, making our way up towards Red Brook where we will stop for coffee. Then carrying on passing Quarlton Heights where we will climb up onto Black Moss which will take us up to the trig point at Bull Hill. This is not as steep as it sounds and at the trig point we will have lunch. From there we will walk down to Beetle Hill and round to Pilgrims Cross. From there it’s down then up over Harcles Hill and onwards to Peel Tower. From there it’s a short lane back to down to the cars\, but a very rubbly one\, and the car park. \n\n\n\nWe can go for a drink after the walk in the Shoulder of Mutton if you wish! \n  \n\n\n\n7.5 miles\, moderate
