B Walk – Abney Moor (Change from programme)

July 16 @ 10:00 am

In view of the continuing hot weather I have been revising my original plan in order to shorten the distance and reduce the amount of climbing. My intention is to start at GR SK210777 a short distance east of Bretton Hamlet (postcode S32 5QD) at the western end of Sir William Hill Road (which is a rough stony track) at 10.00am. A suggested route to the start, coming from the west, is to take the A623 to Houseley, turn left to Foolow, left then right in Foolow taking Bradshaw Lane up on to Hucklow Edge, continuing past the Barrel Inn until the road bears sharp right. There are a number of parking spaces on the left immediately after the sharp right turn and there is some space in the entrance to Sir William Hill Road but please don’t restrict access to the track which is used by farm vehicles and others.

The route involves going down to Stoke Ford, up to Oak Farm and thence on to Abney Moor, on to Abney Village and back by Abney Clough and Bretton Clough. The distance is about 7 miles which is below the standard B distance but plenty in this heat.  There is some luxuriant growth of bracken and nettles and a lot of the route is without shade.

It is important that you check your emails on Wednesday evening in case there are any updates or changes.
