Knowing my luck it will be snowing, but we will nonetheless leave at 10 prompt from the road outside Hartington Youth Hostel, Hall Bank, SK17 0AT. GR 131603. 

It’s 10 moderate miles Hartington, Biggin Dale, Wolfscote Dale, Milldale (toilet here if needed), Alstonefield, Beresford Dale and field paths back to start. We’re in limestone cliffs country, rivers to follow, woodland, a pretty village and fields towards the end. One not so steep up, one more steep down! 

If by chance the road outside the hostel is full of cars, please park in Hartington itself, free around the village and also a small pay and display, and walk up the hill to the hostel. As the walk ends on the footpath that comes into Hartington next to the public toilets, there would be no need to slog back up the hill to the hostel at the end of the day.
