Directions to the start – Taking the M60 anticlockwise exit at junction 23, Ashton-Under-Lyne onto the A6140

Take the inside lane on the slip road turning left, and as you go through the traffic lights take the 2nd lane of the 4 lanes of traffic lights in front of you going straight across the junction, then turn right onto Lord Shelden Way this keeps you still on the A6140. Follow this road all the way towards Ikea. At the large roundabout in front of Ikea take the 2nd exit (ignoring the exit for Ikea itself) staying in the inside lane all the way round. Follow this through the next set of traffic lights round the side of Ikea,  which then takes you round the back of Ikea and onto the A627 Oldham Rd. Follow this road all the way down again staying in the inside lane. You will then come to the Medlock Valley then look out for a large tyre place on your right hand side. You can’t miss it, all the surrounding walls have been painted bright yellow. Turn right down the lane just in front of this. This is Park Bridge Rd. Follow this all the way along the lane till you come to a fork and take the left hand fork and drive up the hill that then takes you up to the heritage car park on the left hand side.

This is a free car park…

We will walk through part of the Medlock valley along the river, then crossing fields climbing up to Hartshead Pike where we will have coffee. Then down quiet lanes and across a road making our way to a disused railway line at Holden Clough and into Daisy Nook Country Park to the Countryside centre for lunch. Then back along the Tameside Trail and back to the car park. Unfortunately the cafe and toilets at the heritage centre are closed at the moment, but the Countryside centre is open for toilets, hot drinks, snacks or ice cream.
