Meet at 9.30 for 9.45 start at the layby on Mudhurst Lane.

Limited parking so car share strongly recommended. Also earlier start because of Sunday.

The walk is between 7 and 7.5 miles.

Southeast and east to Hawkhurst Head then west via New House Farm and Bailey’s Farm

to Cornfield Farm then south to Kettleshulme stopping on route for coffee at the bridge over Todd Brook.

Bypass Kettleshulme on the east side then turn west / south to Near Carr Farm then west

down across Todd Brook (another bridge) the main ascent through Charles Head Farm

and onto Macclesfield Road / Bakestonedale Road picking up the northerly route

Gritstone Trail across Sponds Hill to Bowstones  and final road descent to Mudhurst Lane.

Much of the walk is on road /firm surface but there are some muddy stretches so poles etc. recommended.

Directions to start.

A6 to Disley – turn right at traffic lights up Buxton Old Road

– when the buildings thin out look out for stone barn at right turn signposted Kettleshulme / Macclesfield.

Take this turn (now on Mudhurst Lane) and proceed for just under a mile to layby on the left

(about 200/300 yds before entrance to school/ex Moorside Hotel.

If full there is a shorter layby just ahead on the left.
