The walk will start just past the Packhorse Inn on Butts Road in Little Longstone.

Directions: Too many to choose from: but for a rough guide,  Marple, Hayfield, A624  to join up with the A6. Follow this to the roundabout at Higher Halsteads and take the first exit A623 to Sparrowpit, keep on this until  you reach the sign on your right  B6465 Wardlow, follow this all the way to the Monsal Head Pub and turn left into Butts Lane to the start of walk.

We will start by crossing the fields to Ashford in the Water, where we’ll have coffee break/toilets available, then continue with a steep moderate climb on our way to  (but not into) Bakewell.

We will cross the river and take the long northerly path up to the Monsal trail and on to Great Longstone and finally back to the start at Little Longstone.

This is a repeat of the of the walk I did last year, which received excellent reviews.

Good views and landscapes, good terrain, only a few stiles- the broken one of last year has been replaced with a brand new one.

All we need now is some fine weather.

Ps: I rang the Packhorse Pub to see if they could accommodate a group of around 10 to 30 thirsty rambler’s for ‘afters’  –  they declined saying that it is peak period and requires bookings.

 So no.
