C Walk – Anderton Boat Lift (Change from programme)

The C group walk this coming Sunday, 19th October, will be – ANDERTON BOAT LIFT AND MARBURY COUNTRY PARK. An easy walk of 7.5 miles taking in woodland, river bank, flashes, canal towpath, a lake, and open fields. It is mostly flat on a mixture of good firm tracks and country lanes, with a short section of field paths.There will be four stiles, three road crossings, three gentle slopes, and a couple of flights of steps over a canal bridge.
We will start from the car park next to the visitor’s centre (CW9 6FW). There is a parking charge of £3 for the day. There are toilets in the visitor centre. It is suitable for friendly dogs and well behaved owners.
From Brabyns drive to Stockport and join the M60 towards the airport. Follow the signs for the airport and merge onto the M56.
Leave the M56 at junction 10.
At the top of the slip road take the first turning onto the A559.
Drive for 3 miles, then turn right onto Gibb Hill.
Drive for 2 miles until you see the sign for Anderton Boat Lift.
Turn left at the sign and follow the lane to the car park. I will meet you there at 10.10 for a 10.20 start.
The distance from Brabyns is about 32 miles and the journey time is about 50 minutes. After walk drinks can be had at The Stanley Arms which is just before the end of the walk, or at the cafe in the visitor centre.
