C Walk – Pots and Pans
31/10/2021 @ 9:45 am
Pots and Pans, approx 7.5 miles.
Meeting at 9:45 for a 10am start
Walk starts at Wellington Road, Greenfield.
Postcode OL3 7AG
We will walk up through Lower Arthurs and Bunkers up to the start of the climb up to the war memorial and Pots and Pans. This part of the walk is a fair bit of uphill but it’s not difficult by any means. We then follow the path and up another short section past Kinder Stones and walk towards Shaw Rocks. Then along the ridge and onto Broadstone Hill and Sykes Pillar. Then we make our way down towards Broadstone Clough and down the road following the Oldham Way and into Weakey. From there we take the canal path through locks and through the delightful village of Uppermill, and back to the cars.
I am hoping after all the rain yesterday that the section coming down from Sykes Pillar will not be too muddy, so fingers crossed we have no more rain and stays relatively dry 🤞.
The directions from Marple/Stockport can be taken 2 ways. I go via the motorway and exit at the Ashton turn off which I think is junction no.23. As you enter the ramp take the outside lane turning right, then turn right again at the traffic lights on the A635, Manchester Rd. Follow the road all the way through Staylybride till you come to an offshoot road signposted Mossley, B6175. Stay on this road all the way through Mossley till you come to a small roundabout at the Clarence Pub and turn left down Chew Road. Don’t go up towards Dovestones. Follow Chew Road till you see Tescos in front of you at Greenfield. Wellington Road is the right turn down the side of the supermarket. Park along this road.
Or you could follow this same route but from Stalybridge centre take the A670 Mossley Rd, which takes you up towards Uppermill, but the turning to get onto Chew Road is a very tight “S” bend downhill and although this route is shorter I prefer the first option. Take your pick….😄
7 miles, moderate.
