C Walk – Lyme Park (Change from programme)
February 23 @ 9:45 am
The weather warnings for Sunday have become even more dire so I propose to abandon the Shining Tor walk.
Plan B
Walk: Lyme Park, around 6 miles plenty of escape routes (Please note the NT are watching the wind speed and will make the decision whether to close the park at 2 pm on the Saturday. Should the predicted wind speed rise above 55mph (the Met Office) overnight they will close the park without notice). Please also note it is more than likely to be very wet.
Meet: 9.45am for 10am start
Parking: Station Approach CarPark, Disley (free on Sundays I think)
Directions: Proceed along the A6 and turn sharp right down (Disley) Station Approach just before the Traffic lights at the Ram’s Head. Park in the small car park on the left after the Ram’s Head car parks ( Please be very careful not to park in the Ram’s Head car parks).
Walk Summary: Plan is to approach the park via Red lane. If the weather permits we will climb to the Cage (coffee stop?) and down passing the house/car parks walk though the woods and along the Cluse Hey escarpment then climb up to Paddock Cottage and back over the Knott to the cafe for lunch. We will return to the cars through the woods and back along Red Lane. This should still give us some good views if the weather is not as bad as predicted. Paths pretty good just couple of stiles.
Plan C is low level amble taking in the cafe for hot chocolate. Plan D is morning coffee in the Ram’s Head.
