D Walk – Peak Forest

Directions fom Brabyns. Turn right out of the park, left into Hollins Lane then right at the traffic lights. Follow Hibbert Lane past Goyt Mill , through Hawk Green and onto Windlehurst Road. If Hibbert Lane is still closed then at the roundabout take the 1st exit up Church Lane, pass the church, turn left into Hawk Green Road and then left onto Windlehurst Road. Continue to the Horseshoe pub traffic lights at the junction with the A6. Turn left and pass through High Lane, Disley New Town (New Mills) Furness Vale and onto the roundabout. Continue on the A6 through Chapel-en-le-Frith to the roundabout. Take the 1st exit (A635) on continue to Peak Forest. At the trafic lights turn left into Church Lane and park resposibly as near to Old Dam T junction.

Distance 15 miles

Travel Time: 30 – 40 minutes from Brabyns Park.

The walk start from Peak Forest walking up over the fields to the enterance to the open access Conies Dale. We skirt the rim of the dry valley before climbing out of the dale (its a 5 minute gasper) to the rabbit warren and the site of several deep shafted lead mines. We exit the open access land onto a plateau with great views of Mam Tor and the Great Ridge and follows well marked paths and tracks to the base of Bradwell Moor. There is climb up to the trig point on the moor in search of the wild violets. We then descend to the road and make our way back to the cars.

Distance 4.5 miles Moderate.

Stiles: Quite a few including one difficult double stile.
