The 6½ mile walk starts from Smithy Lane in Rainow at 10.00am and follows field and moorland paths and tracks to the Lamaload dam through Valeroyal. The return passes the bowl barrow on Yearns Low, an ancient monument. There are two long hills and about 17 stiles, some of which are difficult. The path is boggy in parts. There are a lot of sheep so no dogs please.

Parking is in Smithy Lane, Rainow which is a left fork off the B5470 from Macclesfield to Whaley Bridge, just before the Robin Hood pub (SK10 5XE). If travelling from the direction of Whaley Bridge, turn right immediately after the pub and then right again into Smithy Lane. Park on the left and meet at about 9.45 near the seat on the left about 150 yd beyond the pub.
