My Thursday 6 November walk will depart from outside the toilets at Baslow’s Nether End car park, nearest postcode DE45 1SR, GR 258722 at 10am prompt.

The car park is £6:80 in coins, no card payments, or by phone or app. I’m sure you’ve all got secret free spots if you don’t want to pay, but there’s parking on the Bubnell and West End minor roads adding half a mile each way. Alternatively,  if you’re lucky, across the main road from the car park there’s usually some spaces on Eaton Hill and Eaton Place.

It’s an easy / moderate walk of just under 10 miles, initially heading towards Chatsworth House and following the River Derwent to Rowsley via Calton Lees through the Chatworth Estate and Parkland. There’s an ascent of just 600 feet via a track which soon gives way to a beautiful beech wood. Gentle undulations take us through more parkland, woods and pastures as we make our way to the pretty village of Edensor and pick up the Derwent again back to the cars. It’s a varied gentle walk, with lovely views and autumn colour.
