B Walk – Lathkill Dale
February 13 @ 10:00 am
The details of this week’s Walk are as follows:
Start Time – 10.00am.
Start Point – Monyash (GR 665151)
There is ample Car Parking in the village.
There are Toilets ‘near’ the village.
The Weather Forecast is promising, at the moment, to be dry and cold.
Temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees are forecast.
I will be using OS Map OL24 (White Peak Area) and the description of
Walk 27 – Lathkill Dale – Pathfinder Guide Peak District Walks as my
guide.
It is a varied Moderate walk with steepish sections. Some of the
paths are stony, and could be wet.. There are also some grassy and
muddy sections, as well as a little Road surface walking. There are
some stiles to be negotiated.
Overall, it is a pleasant, fun walk because of the variation in
scenery we will see. It is approximately 10.5 miles long starting
from outside the cafe on Chapel Street in Monyash. From the Start
Point, we pick up the Limestone Way. On our way, we briefly drop down
steeply into Cale Dale. After climbing out we head towards Over
Haddon through which we pass to head onto Conksbury Bridge to start
our return journey of approximately 3 miles up the picturesque
Lathkill Dale. After passing the apparent source of the River
Lathkill, we climb gradually up to the head of the Dale and return to
Monyash.
I would advise that, as a guide, I am anticipating that it will take
me approximately 1 hour to get from Hazel Grove to Monyash due to
roadworks and the time at which I will be travelling.
